South Yorkshire Schools' Climate Conference 2021

Coming virtually to your classroom on 5-7 July 2021

Join our exciting 3 day event for primary and secondary schools in South Yorkshire, featuring a wide variety of local organisations and prominent individuals doing amazing work in climate change, education and related fields.

The conference will explore what climate change is and why we need to be concerned about it, what we can do to mitigate the impacts of climate change on the planet and its people, as well as how we can embed climate education into the national curriculum.

Our aim is to create an inspirational, fun and transformative experience for students, teachers and school leaders in both primary and secondary education settings.

It's free and open to all schools in South Yorkshire. We hope you can make it!

Programme

We have an excellent line-up of workshops and presentations, for both primary and secondary schools covering a wide range of topics related to climate change. There's something for all ages and interests, and lots of ways to tie in the sessions with your school's curriculum.

While we hope you will be able to attend sessions live, recordings will be available afterwards to watch at a time to suit you and your timetable.

Acknowledgements

Firstly, thank you to all the teachers, headteachers and school staff, who have gone out of their way at an incredibly difficult time to enable their students to participate in this important event.

We'd like to thank all the amazing contributors to our conference - the presenters and workshop facilitators, our panellists and panel chair, and the schools who contributed short videos for our morning and lunchtime sessions. We are so pleased to be able to showcase the fantastic and vital work you all do and the inspiring ideas from young people across South Yorkshire and beyond. Thank you.

Our thanks also go to our wonderful partners - Development Education Centre South Yorkshire (DECSY), National Education Union Sheffield District, Friends of the Earth Sheffield and Sheffield Climate Alliance - as well as all the individuals and organisations who have made donations. This conference wouldn't have happened without your generous support. Thank you.

We're very grateful to Sam Osborne, who stepped in to manage the production of the conference and has done an excellent job. He highly recommend him to anyone needing production management or tech support for an online event. Visit: samosborne.me

Finally, a huge thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers, who have pulled out all the stops to make this conference a success. Well done to you all (you know who you are).

We're creating a network of schools seeking to include climate education in their curriculum and reduce their school's impact on the environment. The network will give schools the opportunity to learn from each other as they continue on their climate education/carbon reduction journey. By signing up to the conference you are agreeing to be part of this network in South Yorkshire. The network will also be able to gain from the experience of other school based eco-networks around the country.

You will get free access to all the workshops, videos and panel discussion for you and your students. We'll keep you posted about plans for the conference and email you joining instructions nearer the time.
